Ol Drop Tyne News, David scores in Ohio with Mock Scrape

For those of you who have worked with Mock-Scrapes, you know all too well that feeling David had as he knew this Ohio whitetail was coming on a string to his freshly made Mock-Scrape.

For seasons now we continue to see more and more customers unlocking the secrets of using Mock-Scrapes.

They do, without question work, so we would like to share with you a tip that took us a few seasons to learn (the hard way I might add).

Using fresh scents on real active scrapes and mock-scrapes can and should be managed separately as evident by this customer’s question.

Customers question;

“Should I put your dominant buck lure on a real scrapes?”

Ryan, this is going to be a yes and no answer. Yes, on your mock scrapes. This is often a good stunt during the early stages of the rut. No, to your active scrapes. We have found that as often as this might work, many times it kills that scrape’s activity. On active scrapes you are better off placing the scent a couple feet off to the side, this way you can get the response you are hoping for and not take the chance of making an active scrape go cold.

So when dealing with Mock-Scrapes applying fresh scent directly to the scrape can work quite well, however remember our reply to Ryan’s question above when dealing with a real bucks scrape and using fresh buck scent like our Rival Stud.
