Madison’s Yahara Fishing Club had their annual Kid’s Fishing Day at Madison’s Warner Park on Saturday, June 1, 2013. The Club has been a fixture in the Madison area since 1946. The Yahara Fishing Club has a kid’s spring and a winter fishing event every year. Now is such an important time to get children involved in the outdoors in healthy activities like fishing and this club does it’s part in recruiting young children.

The event was held at the Warner Park Lagoons on the north side of Madison’s Lake Mendota. Saturday was also the Free Fishing Weekend in Wisconsin, so no one needed a license to fish. The event ran from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and the first 350 children received a free rod and reel or a tackle box loaded with “goodies.” The also was free bait and many club member to help any beginners and those who needed any help.

The NPAA’s Greg Karch (#138) was there to put on his great fishing basics seminar and talk to the kids and parents at 10:00 am and a hot dog lunch was served to all at 11:00 am. This is a great way to get our children involved in the sport that we all love so much! Other N.P.A.A. members who help in the event were; Jim kloth # 633, Duffy Kopf # 635, and Gary Engberg # 184. The N.P.A.A. contributed the new “camo” t-shirts which were a big hit.

The Kid’s Fishing Day was made possible by the N.P.A.A., Pure Fishing, Fin-Tech, D and S Bait and Tackle, the Rod Regel Memorial Fund, and Walmart.
