A cold front and North winds have cooled the water on the Bay as much as 20 degrees, bringing in the alewives and cooling the big fish bite in the process. 47 Pros hit the water at 8 am today, looking for an improving bite as skies clear and water warm.

The bite was stellar before the front, allowing weight estimates to win as high as 35 pounds a day. During morning interviews today most of the pros have downsized that estimate some, but still feel it will take 7 fish at 23″ or more per day to win.
The fish seem to drop in the water column as cold Lake Michigan offshore water is blown in from the north. Most of the Pros seem to have a shallow and a deep bite going, and feel if things return to ‘normal’, the bite will pick up as the fish move up in the water column and move shallower into the Bay.
Most of the techniques in use are trolling based, but Tommy Kemos said,” I brought my jigging rods this morning. I can’t wait to try jigging today!” Tommy was confident he could head out and boat his 7, then ‘relax and go for big fish’ later in the day.
The AIM CRR format was on everyone’s mind today, as the CRR Format allows the angler to fish all day and put as many fish on the board as is possible, registering their top 7.
