The weather in north central Minnesota has been rough the last few days as a big cold front moved through the area pushing winds over 20 MPH out of the north west. This morning wasn’t an exception, but the winds had died down a bit to 15 steady, and are forecast to lessen more through the day and into tomorrow. Mille Lacs has been ROCKING rough the last few day as a result. The big lake has a reputation three foot seas or more under these conditions.

Rough Conditions on Mille Lacs This Morning at Takeoff

A field of 26 anglers left the docks at Eddies and Hunter’s point this morning. Paul Hartman, executive director of the Muskie Anglers Circuit Hartman Series said, ” There’s been quite a bit of talk lately amongst the tournament anglers in Minnesota that the bite is tough this year on Mille Lacs. Many of the anglers we spoke to chose not to fish this one because of the cold spring and early summer and reports that the Muskies have been tough to locate and catch. Still, the field is fishing for a top prize of $2600.00 with a one in thirteen chance of taking the win, not a bad weekend of Muskie fishing! The economy hasn’t helped either, but we’ll see things improve as the year progresses, and all indications are the Cass Lake area Hartman event will be much better attended because of the great bite on that water in the Fall”

As of this report only an hour into the event, a SOW of 50″ fish has been registered by Patrick Cotter fishing with Dave Orgon.

Check in this afternoon is at 4 PM. OutdoorsFIRST will be reporting on the event out of Hunters Point offering video, still images, and reports from the action on Mille Lacs lake. The virtual weigh in report tomorrow will feature interviews, images of the Muskies caught, and more.
