Whitetails Unlimited has several long-running signage and identification card programs to assist both hunters and landowners for the upcoming hunting seasons. Signs are available at no cost (in limited quantities) by contacting WTU national headquarters.

For hunters and landowners, the Project POLITE Hunter-Landowner ID Card is an easy way to exchange names, addresses and phone numbers, greatly increasing the trust and understanding for both parties. Supported by Winchester Ammunition, the paper cards are simply filled in with contact information and provided to each other. “This is a very simple way to elevate the level of trust for landowners, allowing them to know exactly who is on their land,” said WTU Executive Director Pete Gerl. “For hunters, this is an easy way to build a file of possible hunting locations for the future, and also provides an easy way for the hunter to send the landowner a thank-you later, and remember a name and phone number for future requests to hunt.”

Since the program’s inception more than 20 years ago, WTU’s Project POLITE has opened up tens of thousand of acres to the sport of regulated hunting.

Project POLITE’s bright green Hunting With Permission signs provide potential hunters with a name and phone number to contact for permission to hunt on posted land. This avoids the time consuming process of trying to find out who owns a particular piece of land; and landowners who allow hunters on their land find this an easy way to have hunters contact them.
Hunting With Permission is also generously supported by Winchester Ammunition.

To fight poaching, our Whitetail Watch program consists of property boundary signs, stickers, and wallet cards, with specific contact information for tip lines in nine states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin). Working as a type of neighborhood watch for the outdoors, the signs and stickers let violators know someone is watching, and can help prevent violations from occurring. A thin wallet card lets individuals report suspected violations directly to state law enforcement via a specific toll-free phone number.

Signs are available at no charge, in small quantities, by contacting WTU national headquarters at (920) 743-6777. Larger quantities are available at a very reasonable cost.
