GRAHA Walleye Shootout 2015 Presented by Grand Rapids State Bank is a Huge Success

This tournament is a huge fund raiser for the Grand Rapids Area Hockey Association, The 2nd Harvest North Central Food Bank and Special Olympics of Itasca County. With our many sponsors donating to this event it allows us to help these great organizations each year.

The second annual largest single day payout tournament in Minnesota was a huge success. With 102 team competing for the $12,500 first place payout the lake was buzzing for what turned out to be one of the toughest bites of the year on Lake Pokegama.

The top ten teams truly earned their spots this year and showed that this lake is truly a world class fishery. This year the tournament boundaries were opened up to the river system as well as the lake and a few of the teams that took that run hit the jackpot.

The top ten placing teams were driven into the arena with the their “chosen” song blaring and the lights flashing as the crowds excitement built to see who would kiss the cup in 2015. Brett King from AIM and Jason Manning from 95 KQDS rocked the stage in what turned out to be a heart pumping, edge of your seat build up to the last team in the hot seat.

Rounding up from 10 to 1, here are your top 10:

10th: Jimmy Bell & Michael Lillimo – 8.89 lbs.
9th: Tim Raap & Jason Sullivan – 9.09 lbs.
8th: Dave Nikkel & Ryan Neururer – 10.10 lbs.
7th: Brad Rasmussen & Gordon Fothergill – 11.51 lbs.
6th: Jason Malsam & Josh Peura – 13.22 lbs.
5th: Randy Topper & Brock Anderson – 13.93 lbs.
4th: Bob Wagner & Jim Peterick – 16.86 lbs.
3rd: Dayton Jahn & Corey Jahn – 19.54 lbs.
2nd: Adam Olson & Dan Swenson – 24.66 lbs.
1st: Ethan Soland & Jake Stoll – 28.36 lbs.

NPAA members Stephen and Brenda Picht #514 and #513 along with Danny Thompson #951 hosted a Future Angler kids fishing clinic. There were well over 100 kids that came through the clinic and received a rod and reel combo, Future Angler T-shirt or AIS water bottle.  With a super cell storm fast approaching they made the event fun for the kids with a casting contest and some quick fishing tips, everyone had a great time and it looks like there are going to be some new future anglers in our area. Thank you to the NPAA for your support of our event!

A huge thank you to all the committee members who worked tirelessly to pull off this event and we are all looking forward to next year!

The date has been set for next year’s 3rd annual GRAHA Walleye Shootout for July 16, 2016.

Will you be the one kissing the cup in 2016?
