June 20, 2011-Champlin, MN-On June 15th, 2011, 105 at-risk kids fished in the Cops N Kids fishing tournament, with Full Throttle Fishing.  For the event, police officers were paired up with several children and took them fishing along the banks of a stocked pond in Champlin, MN.

The goal of the event was to get kids interested in fishing and bridge the gap between potentially at-risk kids and the police.  Kids who lived in high-crime rate neighborhoods or whose families had prior convictions were chosen as participants.

Full Throttle was on hand and provided the professional tournament style weigh in, sound system, and even brought a few professional fishermen to help.  The Brooklyn Park police officers organized the event along with sponsors Cabela’s and Target.   Each child went home with a rod and reel , and a tackle box.   The kids were also treated to lunch and won many door prizes.  Some of the door prizes included 3 brand new bicycles, tents, camping gear, water toys, fishing equipment, kites, and all kinds of outdoor related toys.

A lot of credit needs to go to the Brooklyn Park police department and officer, Mark Bruly for organizing this event.

” I was amazed at how much respect the kids gave the police officers who took them fishing.  One thing is for sure, these kids now think fishing is pretty cool,” said Mark Schutz, president of Full Throttle Fishing.

CBS channel 4 news  and local channel 12 news were live on the scene of the event, along with newspaper reporters.
