The AIM Angler of the Year title is conferred on the overall best Pro Angler over the four tournament season. There was little suspense in this year’s winner after Todd Riley’s impressive win at the final tournament on Lake Winnibigoshish, MN. Riley arrived at the Lake Winnie event in first place in the year-to-date “AOY” standings. With his victory, the AIM Angler of the Year title was added to his 2009 AIM International Walleye Championship™ victory.

Todd Riley is AIM Angler of the Year

The AIM Angler of the Year race is based on calculations that track the finishes of each Pro Angler over the course of the season which began back in May at the Bay City AIM Pro Walleye Series™ tournament. The “secret” to claiming the AIM Angler of the Year title is consistency, tournament after tournament.

Todd Riley not only demonstrated consistency but steady improvement in his finishes. Riley placed a very respectable 11th at the Bay City AIM Pro Walleye Series™ tournament – and this would prove to be his LOWEST finish of the 2009 season. He then followed with an 8th place finish at the Green Bay AIM Pro Walleye Series™ tournament (raising his AOY position to 7th year-to-date.) Following his 3rd place finish at the Akaska AIM Pro Walleye Series™ tournament he gained the 1st place AOY position going into the final tournament, the AIM International Championship held on Lake Winnibigoshish.

Todd Riley’s impressive season does not diminish the efforts of the other top contenders in the AIM Angler of the Year race. Chase Parsons made the Day Three “cut” in every tournament in 2009 and posted 8th, 16th, 5th, and 12th place finishes to become the 2009 AIM Angler of the Year runner up. Jason Przerurat took 3rd place in the 2009 AOY standings, followed by David A. Andersen and Tom Kemos.

But the AIM Angler of the Year was a Cinderella story written by Todd Riley. The calculations showed only 14.32 points separating the 2nd to 5th place contenders. But Todd Riley’s margin over Chase Parsons in 2nd proved to be an insurmountable 63.41 points! The point totals follow below:

    1st place Todd Riley                   352.55
    2nd place Chase Parsons            289.14
    3rd place Jason Przerurat            286.63
    4th place David A. Andersen         285.99
    5th place Tom Kemos                  274.82
