Operation Muskie 2012: Veteran application and fund raising banquet, March 17, 2012.

Operation Muskie 2012 is scheduled for Jun 25-29. Operation Muskie provides recent overseas Veterans with the fishing trip of a lifetime on Lake of the Woods. Each year this event pairs a new group of 20 Veterans with 10 of the greatest fishing guides for an all-expenses-paid, fully-guided “welcome home” at world-famous Baystore Camp. The camaraderie between Veterans who have “been there, done that” and those who appreciate their sacrifices, revealed a meaning that went far beyond the fishing alone.

Operation Muskie got its start in 2008 when Dick Pearson sent his ‘Muskie on the Shield’ books and DVDs to an Iraqi base.  A soldier there exchanged emails with Dick about fishing and eventually it was decided Dick would take him fishing on his return to the States.  Dick called Frank and Laura Walsh at Baystore Camp about a cabin and was told by Frank to find 19 more deserving Veterans and they’d host them free of charge.

With the help of Doug Johnson and many other muskie friends and the contributions from hundreds of patriotic people, the idea grew into Operation Muskie. Operation Muskie to date hosted 80 Veterans during the last four years. This summer, Operation Muskie 2012 will host 20 more Veterans.

Veterans interested in participating in Operation Muskie 2012 can apply until Mar 15, 2012. Veterans should go to the “Veterans Application” page on operationmuskie.com for information of how to apply.

With the help of generous individual gifts, as well as support from sponsors, Operation Muskie continues to meet its mission: “Putting Thanks Into Action!” Our Veterans make enormous sacrifices to serve our country and to preserve our freedom. Your support of Operation Muskie demonstrates your dedication to serve your country by supporting our Veterans. Operation Muskie could not happen without the generous support of individual donations, industry gifts-in-kind, and corporate sponsorship.  Operation Muskie especially thanks OutdoorsFIRST for their continued support of Operation Muskie.

If you are interested in supporting our Veterans to participate in Operation Muskie 2012, please consider attending the fund raising banquet on March 17 in Germantown, Wi. Legendary Dick Pearson will be present, along with many other Operation Muskie guides. There will be raffles and auctions of numerous sporting equipment. Please see the attached flyer or go to operationmuskie.com for more information.
