The name of his guide service is an apt descriptor: Wacky Walleye Guide Service. The chipper Captain Dale Stroschein is one part walleye fanatic; one part…well, just plain fanatic. His personality bursts onto the ice and thrashing waves of Lake Superior hailing from his family’s lakeside establishment, Sand Bay Beach Resort in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

Dale grew up on the waters of Green Bay, and has been chartering vessels on the greatest of the Great Lakes for over 26 years. His passion for fishing is evident to all his guide customers, seminar attendees, readers, television viewers, and anyone who catches one of his signature smiles.

Dale’s flair for finding walleyes compelled him to fish competitively for 12 years, each year qualifying for national championships. He was the only angler to hold Big Fish records simultaneously on two major North American tours.

Nowadays, besides lowering lines for his eternal love the walleye, Dale also puts a bead on gold-star earning-bronzeback bass and muskies that cast shadows like the Edmund Fitzgerald. But when cornered, or even asked socially over the bar about his favorite fish species, irrefutably, he’ll say the whitefish.
