Luke Clausen is off to a rough start on the 2013 FLW Tour season after he finished 66th at the first event. And he isn’t thrilled about his prospects heading into the second FLW Tour stop of the year on Lewis Smith Lake in Jasper, Alabama either.

“I’m not overly excited,” said Clausen. “I am not catching the quality of fish I feel I need to win this event. I’m catching numbers of fish, just not big ones.”

Clausen feels about 9-to 10-pounds per day will put anglers in the check-cashing range and about 13 pounds every day will get them into the Top 20.

At this time the big fish are not moving into the shallows like Clausen expected.

“Even though the water temperature was 52 in practice, the big fish are not moving up,” said Clausen. “There are a lot of spotted bass in this lake and some good largemouth bass, too. The larger bites are just so random for me right now. Practice has been okay, but not spectacular.

“I think I’ll start the tournament in pre-fish mode. I want to find winning fish.”
