Poetry (and Science) in Motion St. Croix Fly announces all-new PHYSYX SPEY rods for 2027
PARK FALLS, WIS. (June 18, 2026) – Some describe speycasting as an art. That’s fair. The flow is real, but rod designers at St. Croix Fly say it’s just as much science as art.
All-new for 2027, PHYSYX SPEY rods are conceived, engineered, and precision-crafted to elevate the spey-casting experience with science that supports angler ability. In other words, establishing the anchor, your D-loop, and forward stroke are up to you, but PHYSYX SPEY is the variable in the two-handed casting equation that rewards angler execution. These are rods born from nearly 80 years of research, development, and American manufacturing, combined with the most-advanced rod-building materials and technologies available.
INTRODUCING PHYSYX SPEY FOR 2027
From big tailwater trout and summer-run half-pounders to giant winter-run PNW coastal fish, the PHYSYX SPEY family consists of five 4-piece two-handed rods ranging from a 12’1” 5-weight to a 12’8” 8-weight, each optimized for power, precision, and all-out angler joy.
PHYSYX SPEY starts with a handcrafted blank like no other, the foundation of which being St. Croix’s exotic super-high modulus high-strain SCVI carbon. Each specific model’s blank is further refined with additional carbon fiber materials to yield individualized actions with optimal levels of flex, power, and strength. MITO Graphene applied in critical locations further refines stiffness and flex, increases strength-to-weight ratios, and maximizes loop stability and accuracy by dramatically increasing rod recovery and torsional rigidity. Other proven St. Croix Technologies like IPC, FRS, ART, SPF, and TET supplement performance, strength, and durability while further refining PHYSYX SPEY’s smooth actions.
PHYSYX SPEY is finished with premium componentry to support epic on-the-water experiences, starting with its angler interface, which places a premium on reel security, comfort, and control. Front and rear grips are a modified full wells design, sculpted in flor-grade cork with durable composite-cork accents. The reel seat is a custom, downlocking, machined aluminum design featuring dual locking nuts. Stripping guides are premium Fuji K-series Titanium with Torzite inserts. Snake guides are durable hard chrome.
PHYSYX SPEY TECHNOLOGY GROUP
Exotic, super-high-modulus high-strain SCVI carbon matrix construction
MITO Graphene unlocks the power of hybrid polymer materials and delivers radical hoop strength, optimized loop stability, and absolute accuracy
Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) mandrel tooling provides improved energy transfer, increased strength, and combines with MITO Graphene for mega-efficient rod recovery
Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART) utilizes an exotic carbon fiber scrim that adds a magnitude of strength (10x) with virtually no increase in blank diameter or weight. ART significantly increases hoop strength and reduces ovaling under severe loads while also supporting Slim-Profile Ferrule (SPF) design
Fortified Resin System (FRS) technology combines a fortified super resin with computer-operated curing ovens delivering precise temperature and time management throughout all stages of blank curing. FRS prevents microbuckling, keeping carbon fibers in alignment and resulting in blanks tested to be 33% stronger than those built with standard resins and curing methods
Taper Enhancement Technology (TET) incorporates precision-cut, curved blank patterns from state-of-the-art computer pattern-cutting machines. Curved TET patterns fit and lay up more precisely on IPC mandrels, resulting in stronger and more consistent actions with improved feel
Fuji K Series Titanium stripping guides with Torzite inserts
Flor-grade cork, modified full wells handles with composite-cork accents
Composite-cork Fighting butt
Custom, machined-aluminum, downlocking reel seat with aluminum insert
Aluminum rod tube with rod sock
15-year warranty
