Daiwa Introduces New and Improved BG MQ Spinning Reel Family

Stunning looks, water resistant failure-free performance, and longevity round out the new BIG GAME MONOCOQUE spinning reel offerings

Cypress, CA (July 13, 2020) – Daiwa is proud to introduce the next generation of BG spinning reels to saltwater anglers of all stripes, this time with a one piece MONOCOQUE aluminum body. Light and strong like a Formula One racing car, the reels are lighter and stronger through use of MONOCOQUE body technology.

In terms of application, the reels are designed for everything from inshore to heavy offshore fishing – with models like the BGMQ2500D-H perfect for speckled trout to models like the BGMQ20000 designed to withstand the pressures of fishing giant bluefin tuna.

Since the first spinning reels were invented, it was common sense that the body would comprise two main parts: the reel body and the side-plate. Since Daiwa’s introduction in 2016, the MONOCOQUE body design simply crushed this long-standing paradigm. With the MONOCOQUE design, the reel body serves as a stiff and distortion-proof frame, which is handy and compact at the same time. It offers more rigidity, more stability, and bigger gears. The waterproofing is superb and the MONOCOQUE body offers more reliability as a result. Thus, the side-plate no longer must be secured with a screw and the resulting free space can be used for a larger driving wheel gear. By this design, the reel body can house a driving wheel gear that is 85% the diameter of the body surface. To put it simple: This design allows the use of larger and stronger driving wheel gears at the same body size.

The reels also feature an all-aluminum frame and features Daiwa’s Digigear technology. Additionally, all feature a direct drive machined aluminum handle. The handle gets driven into the gear, making the handle and gear a one-piece assembly. The all-aluminum frame is also anodized – not painted – for a more durable finish.

Daiwa also went to extremes with the weatherproofing on all BG MQ models. The reels feature nine rubber seal points to reduce any kind of water or debris getting into the drags, the one way roller bearing, or the gear set itself. The BG MQ also has two washers to prevent water from getting into the gear case.

The radical reels also feature Advanced Tournament Drag (ATD), which allows for smooth, high drag pressure. Daiwa has subjected ATD to computerized vibration tests that reveal the drag system is considerably smoother than other reels in the same price range.

Compared to most of the competition, the gears are between 20% to 40% larger. The gear ratios may line up between the BG MQ and other models on the market, but the BG MQ offers vastly more power and torque. The gears also feature a larger tooth pattern, giving the gears a much longer gear life and durability than competitive reels. Tests reveal a gear life that is one to three times the length of competitive reels.

The new reels also come complete with an Air Rotor and Air Bail that increase the ease or motion and the delicacy of feeling the reel’s sensitivity during the fight. Along these lines, Daiwa developed the Air Rotor. First, the enormous strains, which affect the rotor via the line and the line roller are better distributed. This causes less pressure on the single parts of the rotor. Second, the rotor is 15% lighter than usual rotors of the same material – this reduces vibrations and enhances the rotational balance thanks to an exceptionally low center of gravity.

The new reels also feature an air bail that is tubular that reduces weight and offers more rigidity than standard wire, so you get a lot less flex and bending or breaking on the tubular system that encircles the bail. It’s also manufactured of a little thicker material that feels good on the fingers when flipping the bail over by hand.

Daiwa’s BG MQ comes complete with a braid ready spool with a rubber band coating around the spool that prevents any slippage.

Aesthetically, the BG MQ is a sexy reel with jet black finish and soft touch rubber handles. All BG MQ reels also feature a serial number for sales protection and pride of ownership.

BG MQ Features:

  •  One Piece MONOCOQUE Aluminum Body
  • AIR ROTOR®
  • Aluminum J-BRAID READY Spool
