All of the East Side creeks should be in good shape.

Poor weather had a lot to do with mostly fair fishing this week, when anglers got to the water.

Steelhead streams, in general, were a little swifter and more colored midweek than anglers would prefer. Expectations for the weekend are good stream conditions with a mix of fresh and older steelhead in the creeks. Anglers caught steelhead at Elk Creek this week. The bottom end is frozen or blocked with ice. Fishing pressure has been light. Pools hold good numbers of fish at Walnut Creek, but you may find the access area clogged with ice. At Twenty Mile Creek, fly fishers were catching two steelhead at a time using dropper flies. Maybe more hooking than actually landing. All of the East Side creeks should be in good shape.

Ice fishing conditions in the region are variable, but with a lot of poor shore ice. Ice fishers may have to wade or walk a plank to get onto the ice in several places. Take great precautions everywhere.

Ice fishing in Presque Isle Bay has been best at Misery Bay where the catch includes crappie, bluegill, perch and steelhead, at Marina Lake where the catch has mostly been perch on the small side with decent bluegill, and at the head of the bay where modest size perch have been caught.

Crappie are still being pulled through the ice at Eaton Reservoir, if you are there in the evening. Shore ice may be an obstacle.

Anglers at Lake Pleasant have caught crappie, bluegill, perch and trout, but fishing has been just fair. Here again, shore ice may be a problem.

Edinboro Lake Ice is “iffy,” yet a few ice fishers have been out, and we will guess they have caught crappie.

Some nice bluegill have been caught at Conneaut Lake.

Pymatuning Reservoir ice fishers have been catching fair numbers of crappie, bluegill and perch. Walleye have been hard to find.

Ice conditions are questionable at Lake Wilhelm.
