DEVILS LAKE, N.D Yamaha Pro Robert Blosser was awarded the 2013 Lucas Oil Angler of the Year title on Sept. 21 during the National Walleye Tour Championship on Devil’s Lake in North Dakota. This is the second Angler of the Year title for Blosser, a native of Poynette, Wisc., who also named AOY in 2010 on the AIM Walleye Pro Series circuit.

“For me, being able to take two angler of the year titles in last four years is just unbelievable,” said Blosser. “Winning a tournament is tough in itself but being able to say you were the most consistent angler throughout the season is really something. I attribute much of that consistency to my equipment. When you have the best behind you, you have the ability to make every fish count and that, I have learned, is how you reach AOY status.”

Blosser surpassed fellow angler Korey Sprengel to win the award. Throughout the season, Blosser and Sprengel were tied in the race for Angler of the Year with 757 points each. Ultimately, the tiebreaker went to the angler with the heaviest, one-day catch for the year. Due to his 47.54-pound bag caught during the Port Clinton, Ohio, event, Blosser emerged as the winner. On the co-side, Joe Knight secured the title after an impressive and consistent season fishing as a co-angler. Both Blosser and Knight will receive custom Lucas Oil rings and paid entry fees for the 2014 NWT season.

“As I look toward the next walleye season, this title is a great confidence booster for me,” said Blosser. “Skill is definitely also an important factor but when you add confidence, you take your fishing ability to a whole new level. I am honored to receive the AOY recognition for 2013, and I look forward to a great 2014 season.”
