Seventh Graders At Webster Stanley Spend Afternoon Learning How To Fish

Friday, May 20th, Certified Angler Educator Greg Karch and NPAA Member #138, hosted a fishing clinic for the seventh graders at Webster Stanley Middle School which is located in Oshkosh,

Wisconsin.  Webster Stanley is located across the street from Menominee Park which is a bay off Lake Winnebago and has good fishing throughout the year.

The one hundred and twenty-seven seventh graders were split into two groups.  The first group attended Greg’s Fishing Basics seminar which educated the students on all the skills needed to fish such as: safety while fishing, fishing combos, casting, fishing presentations, knots, bait and how to hook the bait, fish identification, the environment and the Clean Drain Dry message.  After the seminar the first group of students went fishing for an hour, where they utilized Learn 2 Fish With Us fishing equipment and staff to help them fish.  Some of the students caught crappie and bluegills.  After fishing, each student received a Future Pro shirt thanks to the National Professional Angler Association (NPAA).

The second group of seventh graders then attended the Fishing Basics seminar and went fishing where a couple more crappie and bluegills were caught.  It was a perfect day to be fishing as it was sunny and the winds were calm.  This was one of the warmest days we have had this year.  Greg said “It is so important to work with these youth on fishing as they live on one of the best fishing bays right next to their school”.
