Williston, ND-

Earlier this spring NPAA Member #898 and Williston based fishing guide, Matt Liebel, hosted a Future Angler Event at the Williston Sport and Recreation Show where he gave seminars on Fishing Basics to a large group of young anglers and their parents.

Matt is a new NPAA member that joined the association late last year in part because of the NPAA’s support for “Future Angler Events” hosted by its Members. Matt went on to say, “I have a passion for the sport of fishing, and I want to share that passion with the next generation of anglers.  The support the NPAA gives its Members who run these events goes a long way to help me to just that.”

During the “Future Angler Event” at the show Matt gave two separate Fishing Basics Seminars for a group of very engaged young anglers and their parents.  He also manned a “Kid Zone” where he let up to three kids at a time practice casting. Each of the kids who participated in the “Kid Zone” received handouts including: Aquatic Invasive Species pamphlets, knot tying guides, fish of ND books, and brochure on filleting fish, ND fishing regulations, ND Boating regulations and Life Jacket Safety Leader decals.

Thanks to generous support from the following individuals and organizations each kid who participated in the event went home with a door prize including: one of 50 Rod/Reel Combos that were donated to the event by the NPAA, a tackle bag donated by Scenic Sports in Williston, Go Fishing Books donated by Matt Liebel, and 50 Hooked on Fishing tackle boxes donated by the ND Game and Fish Department.

Overall this first “Future Angler Event” was a huge success for Matt and the attendees. Matt hopes this event will help to bring new anglers of all ages into the sport he loves.   As a guide Matt’s livelihood is based upon his passion and his desire to share it with others.
