On September 20th, the NPAA hosted a “Future Angler Event at the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour Championship(CNWT). The event lead was Rick Zachowski NPAA #231.  NPAA member Eric Olson  gave an informational seminar on the fishing techniques that were being used during the CNWT event that week including; jigging, trolling cranks and hand lining floating Rapala’ s. Eric also discussed the importance of safety around the water, including the use of life jackets and as importantly he talked about controlling the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species by observing the Clean, Drain, Dry steps after each trip.

There were approximately 125 young anglers accompanied by their parents in attendance for the event. NPAA Members Kevin McQuoid, Eric Olson, Tommy Skarlis, Tom Keenan, Rick Zachowski and Max Wilson, along with Randy Ritchie from Walleyes for Tomorrow assisted as they gave the young anglers; NPAA “Future Pro” T-shirts, AIS water bottles, Invasive Water Species books, and rod/reel combos. Thanks go to Walleyes for Tomorrow who donated 30 spinning combos for this event that supplemented the rod/reel combos that were supplied to the NPAA for use at this event by the Future Angler Foundation.  More information about the Future Angler Foundation can be found at www.futureangler.org.

Special thanks also to the Cabela’s NWT for allowing the NPAA Members to host Future Angler Events on their stage at all four of their events in 2014. These Future Angler Events are held by NPAA volunteers and each contains information on water safety, Aquatic Invasive Species prevention, and angling techniques.  Funding for these events comes from the NPAA www.npaa.net with support from the Future Angler Foundation.
