On June 28th, the National Professional Anglers Association(NPAA) hosted a “Future Angler” Event  after the final weigh-in at the Cabela’s National Walleye(CNWT) Tour in Mobridge, SD.  The event was organized by Rick Zachowski #231 with help from the NPAA and the CNWT staff.

This event surrounded a seminar given by NPAA member Eric Olson, with additional help from NPAA members Chad Schilling, Paul Steffen, and Jason Przekurat. Eric shared his knowledge of the techniques the attendees could use to target walleyes on famous Lake Oahe, located in Mobridge.  Techniques like “Slow Death” a technique that was developed by local guides and is an effective method of trolling a piece of a spinning nightcrawler were discussed.

Each NPAA hosted “Future Angler Event” includes information on best practices to utilize to help prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species(AIS). AIS prevention is critical for all anglers to be aware of and the NPAA is doing its part to educate anglers about the threat by educating them about the three step “Clean, Drain, Dry” process each angler should use on their boats and equipment after every trip to the lake.

There were approximately 75 youth attendees at this event who were accompanied by their parents and grandparents. At the conclusion of the event the NPAA Pro Anglers handed the youth attendees a rod/reel combo and a “Future Pro” T-shirt provided by the NPAA and some hats and other product provided by other CNWT sponsors.  Rich Zachowski stated, “the number of smiles on the kid’s faces say it all”.

The NPAA will host another “Future Angler” Event at the next stop on the CNWT Tour in Escanaba, MI in late August.
