Learn 2 Fish With Us Educates Youth and Families on Fishing and AIS

Learn 2 Fish With Us Angler Educator and NPAA Member Greg Karch #138 spent the last two weeks educating youth and families all around Wisconsin on fishing and the AIS message of Clean, Drain and Dry.
Future angler education started in Appleton, Wisconsin, at Mills Fleet Farm Kids Fishing Day which was held on Saturday July 12th. Greg instructed youth on how to cast, and if they had a good cast, the youth could catch a Backyard Bass. You should have seen all the smiles when the youth reeled in the plastic fish, it was as if they just caught their first fish. During the event, Mills Fleet Farm employee’s educated youth and families on equipment, fishing techniques, need to knows along with learning new skills. This event had over 130 youth in attendance.
Learn 2 Fish With Us and Greg then traveled to Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Greg presented his Fishing Basics seminar at Devils Lake State Park on July 19th. It was a gorgeous day!! The families learned everything they needed to go fishing from safety, fishing combos, casting, fishing presentations, bait, knots and fishing identification. Greg then reviewed the AIS message of ‘Clean Drain Dry’. Greg had the kids yell out CLEAN!! He then reviewed what clean meant, such as removing the weeds from his boat and trailer. The kids then yelled out DRAIN!!! Greg explained that drain meant draining his live well of water and pulling his boat plug so all water in the boat would drain. Greg explained that transporting water from a lake could not be done, such as though minnow bucket or transporting fish when caught from shore. The kids then yelled out DRY!!! Greg explained that when traveling to other bodies of water he would dry off his boat. After the seminar, each of the other received a Shakespeare fishing combo that they all rigged together with a bobber, hook and sinker. Now it was time to go fishing, and the youth caught bluegills and bass!!! It was a great day to spend fishing at a great Wisconsin State Park!!! Learn 2 Fish With Us and Greg then traveled to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where Greg presented his Fishing Basics seminar to families prior to the Bago Walleye Club tournament weigh in on July 20th. These families learned everything needed to fish while spending time together. Parents even learned from Greg on how they can help teach youth on casting and more!!! Each youth went home with a fishing combo so they can take their newly learned skills and apply them while fishing. Thanks goes to the NPAA and BWC for providing fishing combo’s for all the kids.
