September 11th, 2015 marked the fifth consecutive future angler event at Stoney Point Resort on Cass Lake, MN. Future Anglers gathered throughout the crowed as MWC anglers carried hundreds of healthy Minnesota walleyes across the stage. They cheered as tournament director and MC, Dan Palmer, read off each team’s total weight of walleyes. However, the future anglers appeared to be more interested in the activities that were about to happen.

Following the last team to weigh their day one catch, 20 future anglers gathered at the front of the stage to learn more about the sport and how safety is the number one priority on the water. MWC angler, Spencer Deutz #552, instructed the future anglers on several topics starting out with Aquatic Nuisance Species. They conversed about zebra mussels and the importance of clean, drain and dry. The future anglers were also taught several safety tips including but not limited to: life jackets, proper eye wear, sun screen, the buddy system and weather.
Now comes the part they were all waiting for. Each future angler received a free rod and reel combination courtesy of the National Professional Anglers Association Future Angler Foundation (NPAA FAF). NPAA members Spencer Deutz #552, Chad Maloy #499, Jacob Denning and a few others helped the kids piece their rod and reels together prior to the group picture in front of the MWC stage.
