When NPAA Member Gary Nault of Sturgeon Bay, WI organized the first annual “Kids Fishing Derby” with his wife Cheryl 28 years ago he never even considered that the event would become a Father’s Day tradition in the community.  28 years latter Gary, a local guide and angler educator, his wife Cheryl and several volunteers hosted another successful event for nearly 100 kids and their parents at Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay.

“It was great to see anglers at the derby who had attended when they were young and now they have brought their own kids to fish it.”  This year’s event was another huge success with lots of smiles, beautiful weather, and plenty of fish. Young anglers fished for trophies in Sunfish, Rock Bass, Carp, and Bullhead categories.  Every child who attended received door prizes including rods and reels that were donated by several companies including the NPAA.

An event of this magnitude would not be possible without volunteers and sponsors.  The Nault’s had great support for the event again this year from several community members as volunteers and from the sponsors of the event.

Event sponsors included: Howie’s Tackle, Jim Olson Motors, McDonalds, Mercury Marine, Lund Boats, Gary’s Guide Service, Dr. Jeff Schauder, Dan Schott, Dr. Luke Staudenmaier, Triangle Distributing, Madelyn Marina, Dairy Queen, and the NPAA.  For more information about the event or to become a sponsor of the 29th Annual event contact Gary Nault at (920)743-1100.
