Asian carp at the gates of the Great Lakes
Invasive silver and bighead carp are knocking at the gates of the Great Lakes. The fish have advanced through the Illinois Waterway to the Brandon Road Lock & Dam near Joliet, where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposes a $770 million gauntlet defense system. Army Corps staff and policy advocates from Illinois and Michigan met reporters with the Institute for Journalism and Natural Resources (IJNR) on Nov. 4-5 in Chicago to discuss existing control measures and next steps in the invasive species battle.
