2009 MAC Can Am Challenge

Entry fees are $1000 USD per team, with a 50% deposit due and payable on or before the 1st of September.

The remainder is due and payable at the rulesmeeting October 1st.


Registrations will commence starting in July, 2009. Given that this is an invitational event, registrations must be confirmed for American Competitors by Mark Lijewski, or by Craig Stapon for Canadian Competitors.

Anglers are required to have a valid Ontario fishing license on their person whether pre fishing or fishing the tournament, which may be purchased from a variety of retailers in Kenora.

There will be suppers on Friday and Saturday night for all contestants.

Tournament Headquarters will be the Super 8 Motel at 240 Lakeview Drive, Kenora, ON, P9N 0H2, (807) 468-1638.


A Musky Tackle Expo will take place on Thursday the 1st. An amateur’s event will also take place on the 1st.

Right on with the Can-AM! I am very excited about the tournament. The response has been outstanding and spots are filling fast.

All things are moving forward well. We are really looking forward to theevent; the Canadian team is coming together very nicely.

We have some pretty good stixs up here and are really looking forward to one of the best events of the season. It should be a blast and I look forward to meeting all the team USA members. There are lots of places to stay; Our host and Headquarters the Super 8, Anchor Inn and Marina, Best Western….Anchor Inn and Marina is on the water and your boat can be left in and charged over night 1-807 -468 -6861, ask for Emily.

Super 8 is 807.468.8016, Ask for Tracy. Tracy is one of the tournament organizers. The Super 8 is a very nice place over looking the water with lots of dry land boat parking.

In due consideration of being a contestant in the MAC Can/Am Event, I, and all present and future personal representatives, heirs and next of kin, hereby release, waive and discharge MAC, the Can/Am and its Directors, Officers, employees, agents or representatives, or any other
donators to these 2009 Events for all loss or damage,
and any claim or damage. Thereof, on account of injury to
my property or my person including death, whether caused by the negligent act or negligent omissions to act or otherwise by any or all of the above, while I am participating in the Can/Am Challenge.

The following are NOT the complete rules, both team members must attend the Rules Meeting for complete rules and regulations.

1. All Contestants must be of at least eighteen (18) years of age OR fish with a parent or legal guardian.

2. The entry fee will be $1000.00 per Team.

3. A Team shall consist of two (2) persons and there may be no more than one (1) team per boat.

4. There shall be no refunds of Can/Am Event entry fees after September 30, 2009.

5. Can/Am Officials have the right to reject any Team entry.

6. Can/Am officials will be designated at the Rules Meeting.

7. Registration shall take place on the Thursday immediately
preceding the scheduled Can/Am, at a location to be
specified by MAC Officials. A mandatory pre-tournament meeting will follow registration at 7 p.m. sharp! All contestants must register, ID is required. If a Team is unable to attend this meeting a Can/Am official must be contacted in advance to create an exception. Each contestant must sign a waiver and entry form before
fishing any Can/Am Event. Canadian Fishing license is required.

8. All Teams participating in the Can/Am will allow daily
inspection of their boat. All tournament boats MUST pass
boat and livewell inspection. Assigned starting numbers
provided by Can/Am MUST be displayed as specified by the Can/Am.
 
Failure to comply could result in disqualification.

9. Tournament hours shall be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

10. Any team that is late checking in with the timekeeper shall be disqualified for the day.

11. Tournament boundaries shall be specified by Can/Am Officials at the mandatory pre-tournament rules meeting.

12. No alcohol will be allowed or consumed that would affect a
contestant during the tournament hours in any way. Use of
alcohol during the event hours or drunken behavior during
ANY Can/Am function or in public creating any situation that
is a detriment to the Can/Am angler’s overall image during the evening and night time hours of a Can/Am event may result in disqualification.

13. All Canadian fishing and boating rules, regulations and licensing in effect in the State where the Event is being held shall apply and be adhered to by all Event participants. It is the contestant’s responsibility to know the rules and regulations of the State and body of water they are fishing.

14. Only one (1) fishing line AND one (1) lure per contestant is allowed in the water at any one time.

15. No Live or Dead natural bait permitted.

16. NO VERTICAL HOLDS PERMITTED. Muskies will be immediately CPR’d according to MNR rules.

17. During tournament hours contestants will not leave the
boat without checking out with Can/Am Officials at designated checkpoints. Contestants must not at any time place their boat on shore, except in inclement weather for safety, or for special “site” circumstances, which shall be announced by Can/Am Officials at the pre-tournament rules meeting. Contestants should make every reasonable effort to refrain from positioning their boat or fish within 150 feet of another boat of any kind.

18. Motor trolling shall be allowed. Contestants using
such methods shall maintain a reasonable distance from
all other boats, following the 150′ rule in order to give each
other room to compete and avoid conflict on the water.

19. When running your main engine above trolling speed, all
contestants must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
and use the appropriate motor kill switches. All tournament
boats must have all the US and Canadian required safety
equipment.

20. All Can/Am Events that have less than a full field of 100
competing teams shall have the payout amounts adjusted
downwards based on a percentage figure determined by
the actual number of participating teams.

21. Failure of any team to comply with any tournament rule
may result in team disqualification and forfeiture of the
event entry fee and a review by Can/Am Officials as to whether
or not the team involved shall be banned from future Can/Am
events.

22. Any Can/Am contestant may be subject to a polygraph test should Can/Am officials receive a protest or by other reason. Protests may be filed with a check for $150.00 to any Can/Am official. Should the protest be deemed reasonable and factual, the protest fee will be returned. If the protest is deemed unreasonable and rejected, the protest fee MAY be retained by the Can/Am and added to the Conservation account for distribution to Muskie conservation groups along the way.

23. All contestants are asked to cooperate with members
of the press after tournament events for interviews
and photographs, and with Can/Am for use of names and
photographs, that may be used for publicity and advertising
purposes.

24. All decisions of the Can/Am Officials shall be final.

Points:

The Can/Am Challenge will use the following schedule for calculating points for
each fish:

1) A legal fish, defined by Can/Am Challenge Officials during the rules meeting, will be awarded 10 points.

2) Every 1/4-inch beyond the legal measure will be awarded
1 point.

3) Measure will be rounded down to the nearest 1/4-inch.

4) Total points will determine the Team’s standing.

5) In the event of a tie for First place, the Team registering the earliest fish according to the MAC Time/registration form will win. If there is still a tie, the Team with the largest fish will win. All further ties for First place will be decided by a coin toss, Can/Am official to call the Team’s Heads or Tails.

6) Can/Am Contestants are responsible for the images of all CPR Can/Am fish they wish to enter using the Team’s personal digital cameras. It is strongly suggested the Team carry a back-up camera in case of a failure. Digital cameras only. All digital cameras have a time/date stamp in the data that is not displayed on the image, but can be easily recovered. Any attempt to use multiple images of one fish represented as more than one fish will result in immediate disqualification and possible further serious legal action.
Any unreadable image will be rejected, and if no readable
images are deemed available by Can/Am officials, that fish will not be entered.

ALL decisions of Can/Am Officials are final.
