Day 1 at the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament kicked off under beautiful conditions this morning. Anglers have been frustrated with the cooler nights and cold water, leading to the larger numbers of bigger smallmouth holding in staging areas and just beginning to move shallow. Experienced SB smallmouth anglers know that these big pods of fish need to push shallow for the fishing to kick into high gear, and mother nature just seems bent on dragging out the cold weather. The forecast does call for warming temps, maybe these next two days will put them in high gear. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated throughout the next 2 days.
