Kentucky’s George Rogers Clark High School Wins Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Fishing Lake Erie Open Presented by Costa Sunglasses

KENTUCKY’S GEORGE ROGERS CLARK HIGH SCHOOL WINS BASS PRO SHOPS FLW HIGH SCHOOL FISHING LAKE ERIE OPEN PRESENTED BY COSTA SUNGLASSES

SANDUSKY, Ohio (Sept. 9, 2019) – The George Rogers Clark High School duo of Allen Powe and Alex Dunaway, both of Winchester, Kentucky, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 15 pounds, 7 ounces to win the 2019 Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Fishing Lake Erie Open presented by Costa Sunglasses.

A field of 30 teams competed in the no-entry fee tournament, which launched from Shelby Street Public Boat Launch in Sandusky, Ohio. The tournament was hosted by the City of Sandusky. In FLW and The Bass Federation (TBF) High School Fishing competition, the top 10-percent of teams competing advance to the High School Fishing National Championship.

The top three teams on Lake Erie that advanced to the 2020 High School Fishing National Championship were:

1st: George Rogers Clark High School, Winchester, Ky. – Allen Powe and Alex Dunaway, both of Winchester, Ky., five bass, 15-7

2nd: Anthony Wayne High School, Whitehouse, Ohio – Elliot Wielgopolski, Waterville, Ohio, and Josh Dachenhaus, Whitehouse, Ohio, five bass, 14-9

3rd: A1 Angler Bass Club – Bobby Belair, New Boston, Mich., and William Junge, South Rockwood, Mich., five bass, 13-11

Rounding out the top 10 teams were:

4th: Black Swamp Bass Club – Daniel Freebern, Oak Harbor, Mich., and Kyle Johnson, Helena, Ohio, five bass, 13-7

5th: A1 Angler Bass Club – Derek Rodriguez, Okemos, Mich., and Cougar Fagan, Albion, Mich., five bass, 13-7

6th: Hartley’s Hawgs Bass Club– Brandon McNamara and Nathan Fiant, both of Delaware, Ohio, five bass, 11-14

7th: Michigan Student Anglers – Jenson Kay, Milford, Mich., and Remington Barkley, Hartford, Mich., five bass, 11-9

8th: Roanoke-Benson High School, Roanoke, Ill. – Brock Sauder, Carlock, Ill., and Brayden Blunier, Roanoke, Ill., four bass, 11-6

9th: A1 Angler – Luke Prainito, Lake Orion, Mich., and Alex Smith, Howell, Mich., five bass, 10-12

10th: Aurora Central Catholic High School, Aurora, Ill. – David Bartlett, Aurora, Ill., and John Murray, Courtland, Ill., four bass, 10-12

The 2019 Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Fishing Lake Erie Open presented by Costa Sunglasses was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12, open to any Student Angler Federation (SAF) affiliated high school club in the United States. The top 10 percent of each Challenge, Open, and state championship field will advance to the 2020 High School Fishing National Championship on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.

In addition to the High School Fishing National Championship, all High School Fishing anglers nationwide automatically qualify for the world’s largest open high school bass tournament, the 2020 High School Fishing World Finals, held in conjunction with the National Championship. At the 2019 World Finals more than $150,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded.
