Faircloth takes lead at Sabine River

After the dominating Day 1 catch by Dean Rojas, many pundits felt he was in great position to go wire-to-wire, but it was not to be. Todd Faircloth from Jasper, Texas had other plans. His limit of fish, the largest of the event so far, weighed 16 pounds 8 ounces to take the lead with a total of 26 pounds 15 ounces after two days.
Faircloth Expanded
“I had a great day,” said Faircloth. “I didn’t know if I was gonna catch a fish today. I caught a good one early and then expanded on my area. I caught about 7-or 8-keepers then left the area.

“I grew up fishing against some the anglers that live around here. I see a lot of familiar faces out there. I’m happy to be here.”
Rojas Fishing Small Area
“I have a little area I am fishing,” said Rojas who weighed a limit weighing 10 pounds 14 ounces leaving him behind Faircloth by 7 ounces. “There are a few fish in the area. I caught what I could and then got out of there. I think there are enough out there to win.
“The weather should be nice and hopefully the big fish will be more active on the weekend. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. It’s gonna be fun.”
Cliff Crochet is in third after Day 2 with 25 pounds.
“I’ve had a good week,” said Crochet. “I had a little more than I thought I had in practice. It was nice fishing today knowing I was close to qualifying to fish on Saturday. I really want to fish on Sunday.”
Jumping up to the 4th spot is Terry Scroggins.
“I’ve been running as far as I can go,” said Scroggins. “I watch my Smart Craft gauges and when I use 24 gallons of gas I stop and fish my way back. The big fish are starting to move up. Hopefully my luck will hold up.”
Scroggins has 24 pounds 5 ounces and weighed big fish of the day, a 6-pound 1-ounce bass.
Mark Davis sits in 5th.
“I never had my limit fish on today,” said Davis. “I had one good area. I caught 5 fish and one keeper. I scrambled around and caught three more keepers. I’ll get back out and go again tomorrow.”
Davis has a 2-day total of 22 pounds 3 ounces.
Ish Monroe’s limit kept him in the number 6 spot.
“I’m actually catching a bunch of fish,” said Monroe. “I caught my limit in the first 35 minutes. I just can’t seem to find a big bite. If I have to I will just 10 pound it all the way. (Ish is referring to catching about 10 pounds each day).
Monroe’s 2-day total is 21 pounds 12 ounces.
