STURTEVANT, Wis., March 8, 2017 – BRP announced today Evinrude angler Jacob Wheeler won the first Bassmaster Elite Series event of the year, held February 9th through 12th in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Wheeler, an Indianapolis, Indiana-based angler, won the event and its $100,000 first-place prize with a four-day total of 69 pounds, 13 ounces. A final-day catch of 18-3 – his biggest of the tournament – helped him jump from third place into the winner’s spot. Team Evinrude anglers David Fritts came in 45th, David Walker 64th, and Koby Kreiger finished 75th.

“This tournament was filled with adversity,” said Wheeler. “So much went wrong, but my engine never quit. During pre-practice, I was able to graph the entire lake from one end to the other. Having that time on the water allowed me to fish every rock, every boulder, every piece of structure I had found in practice, most from memory, during the tournament. The torque and fuel efficiency of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 gave me the edge to go further, faster and stay longer to find those spots; and when I was behind, let me make the fast runs I needed to come out ahead.”
“We are very proud to support Jacob and other Bassmaster Elite anglers,” said Olivier Pierini, Evinrude director of global marketing and strategic planning. “With win after win, anglers like Jacob Wheeler and the entire Team Evinrude prove that E-TEC G2 outboards can be counted on whenever and wherever they’re needed.”
