Combs leads the TTBC

The Toyota Texas Bass Classic (TTBC) returned to Lake Fork where the first TTBC was held in 2007. Day 1 leader, Strike King pro Keith Combs, bagged 42 pounds today including one weighing 10 pounds 14 ounces. Combs is no stranger to leading the TTBC. He is the reigning champ and two-time winner. Phoenix Boat pro Russ Lane is in second with 38 pounds 4 ounces.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Livingston Lures pro Stetson Blaylock is in third with a weight of 36 pounds 8 ounces. In fourth is Ranger pro Randy Haynes weighing 34 pounds 8 ounces. In fifth is Chevy pro Luke Clausen with 33 pounds 12 ounces.
Combs exceptional.
“This is just an incredible fishery,” said Combs. “It’s the best day I’ve ever had on Lake Fork. I had an exceptional day. It could take over 100 pounds to win this three-day event. That is incredible.
“I had a quick start this morning. I had 30 pounds fairly early. I had a big cull mid-day. I pulled up to a spot I tried in practice without a lot of success. They were on there. I left them there. Hopefully they’ll be there tomorrow. I have high expectations.”
Reports had Combs using a deep-diving crankbait much of the day to catch his big fish.
Lane caught ‘em all day.
“It was unbelievable today,” said Lane. “I started where I fished here back in 2007. It was sentimental. Then I went to where I knew I could catch them. I caught them all day. Texas is doing a tremendous job with this lake.”
Blaylock likes Fork.
“This lake is so full of big fish,” said Blaylock. “I’ve never had a day like today fishing. I’ve fished all over and never had a day like this. Lake Fork is just tremendous. I really like this lake.”
Haynes beat.
“I’m tired,” said Haynes. “I had a great time out there today. It is a wonderful lake. Catching 4-pounders all day wears you out. My timing was right today. Everything went good. I’m hoping I can have another good day tomorrow.”
Clausen stayed shallow.
“I don’t have one place I am fishing,” said Clausen. “I’m running a pattern. There are lots of big fish on this lake. It is just amazing. I thought everyone was full of it talking about 30-pounds bags. They weren’t lying.
“I stayed shallow today. I never fished deeper than three feet. I caught them on a new Megabass swimbait.”
