The “Mystery Lake” concept that was released last year held a lot of interest among fans and anglers coming into it.  The event location was announced in late May as Green Bay would be the seventh stop on the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series season.

The Green Bay Challenege which started today to what many had thought would be one of the best events of the year is turning out to be what could be one of the most challenging events B.A.S.S. has seen.

“I chose every site this year, so there’s only one guy to blame and that’s me,” Jerry McKinnis told the Elite Series anglers during the pre-tournament meeting Wednesday evening. “I got blindsided.”

Controversy rose when the Wisconsin Departement of Natural Resources implemented a northern boundary that cuts off some of the most productive water near the Door County Peninsula.  The anglers will be restricted south of the Oconto River on the west to Sherwood Point Lighthouse on the east.

“When we found out what we were up against, we tried to change (the site),” McKinnis said. “But it was too late.”

The anglers left this morning from the Metro Boat Launch under clear skies and calm conditions.  The anglers we all talked with this morning felt confident but were very unsure how things would play out with nearly every boat heading to the northern boundary on the east side.
