The groundbreaking show On Tour with Joe Thomas, on the Outdoor Channel, was the first television program that showed the highs and lows of the life of a pro angler on tour. Thomas’ popularity rose with his TV success. He has a couple of highly successful shows featuring a one-on-one tournament format similar to the NCAA basketball tournament. These shows, Ultimate Match Fishing and the Ultimate Match Fishing College Edition, are some of the most popular programs on the Outdoor Channel. Thomas also hosts Reel in the Outdoors available on a variety of stations in the Ohio Valley.BF – How many years have you been fishing as fulltime pro?JT – 26 years.BF – Have you ever won a tournament at any level? If yes, how many and which events?JT – Yes, the 1990 Red-Man All-American. The win helped to launch my career.BF – Do you have any other job besides being pro angler right now?JT – NoBF – What was your previous job?JT – I was a college student then became a UPS sorter for a while before becoming a pro angler.BF – How many days per year do you fish?JT – I fish about 150 days per year give or take a few days.BF – How many days per year are you on the road for tournaments?JT – I average about 100 days on the road.BF – How many shows do you work for sponsors?JT – I average around 40 show appearances annually.BF – What else do you do for sponsors?JT – Promote their products at every opportunity.
