ST. MARYS, Ohio. (May 12, 2010) – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Grand Lake/St. Marys May 22 for the first of five stops in the Buckeye Division series. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“There should be a fair amount of fish still on the beds,” said FLW Tour pro Dick Shaffer of Rockford, Ohio, who got his pro start on Grand Lake. “The water is pretty clear right now for the lake, but other than that it should fish pretty typical springtime patterns. Jigs, soft plastics, tubes should all work well.”

Shaffer indicated that the spawning fish will be found in about 1 foot of water, very shallow. He believes that the lake will fish small and it will only take about 10-12 pounds to win.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park – West Bank Ramp located on West Bank Road in Celina, Ohio. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers, that offers even bigger prizes to qualifiers of the regional championship and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
