2.8.16 Sunset Lodge Fishing Report

Up at the NW Angle, we have about 20-22 inches of ice on the Minnesota side where our houses are at and an average of 20 inches up on Ontario where we are fishing for crappies. We’ve got about 7-8 inches of snow on top of the ice. This week are going to have highs at 0-5 above and lows in the teens below zero. We’ll be making more ice!

On the Minnesota side, with the warmer weather we’ve been having the fishing has been better in a little shallower 24-28 FOW. But, with the cold front moving in, fish should start moving a little deeper 28-32 FOW. Jigging raps, buck shots, and smaller spoons have been producing. We recommend red, gold, green, or pink colors. With steadier weather conditions, fishing should continue to pick up once the storm blows through. Our houses are all still located South of Oak Island.

On the Ontario side, our guided crappie trip guests are catching many crappies, some even over 15.5 inches on Tungsten jigs. We’re leaving Sunset Lodge around 8am, returning around 5 or 5:30pm.

This week we are looking forward to the arrival of the John Thelen Group who will be staying and fishing out of Sunset Lodge. John is an Otter and Lindy Pro. We are also happy to have Mark Romanack staying with us. He has a fishing TV show called Fishing 411 that airs on the World Fishing Network.
