Sunset Lodge Fishing Report 1-12

Fishing started okay this week. The 12 inches of ice we now have down by Little Oak enabled us

to get more of our houses down there; we are also fishing Rabbit Ears & Miller Point. We’re fishing a little deeper than last week at about 24-29 feet. The dead stick wasn’t as effective as the guys (and gals) that were jiggin’ steady. The more they jigged, the more they caught.

We had groups with limits of crappies from Canada. There is 6 inches up at Deep Water Bay but Tug Channel is full of slush. I still wouldn’t recommend going up to Outer Bay. I’ll have a better report next week.

The lake froze pretty flat this year (which is really unusual) and sure makes for some great snowmobiling. All the snowmobile trails are now marked! The NW Angle Edge Riders recently reported having 5 inches under heavy snow on their packed trails and 7 inches on Black Trail – the Rainy River/Oak Island transit. Get out and help pack the snowmobile trails down if you can.

The ice road from Young’s Bay isn’t plowed to us yet but we’re hoping it is this week.

Until next week, good fishing!
