Popular outdoor TV show host Larry Smith has always wanted to fish the NW Angle in the open water. Recently, he had the chance to do just that. Fishing with Lake of the Woods Tourism Director, Joe Henry, the two double teamed some good walleyes, sauger, smallmouth bass and some pike. One of the pike was an absolute giant and was caught on video.

There are various ways to travel to the NW Angle. In this segment, we drove a boat across Lake of the Woods, staying in MN waters. If you want to avoid passing through customs and Canada, there are three ways to travel.

Drive your own boat. This is big water and not only takes the right boat, but an experienced boater, the right crew and extra time in the event it is windy.
Lake of the Woods Passenger Service. This is a charter boat shuttle service across the lake to your favorite NW Angle resort. In the winter, they use bombardiers!
Lake Country Air. Fly across the lake, across the state or the Midwest and land in front of your favorite NW Angle resort on the water (or on the ice come winter).

Driving up to the Angle is also an excellent option. Travelers must be vaccinated, have credentials such as a passport and fill out the ArriveCan App each time traveling across the border. Not a big deal once you have done it and as long as you are vaccinated.

You may have seen Larry Smith Outdoors on Bally’s Sports North or your favorite outdoor channel. He films 52 show per year, is a fishing guide and a farmer. Not too much grass grows below his feet and he loves Lake of the Woods. Check out this past weekend’s show below.
