OAKS, PA – –Get ready to be amazed at the 6th Annual Greater Philadelphia Outdoor Sportshow, February 26-March 1, 2015 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA. From sharks to bird dogs to birds on the wing, it’s all happening at the Expo.

Visitors will thrill to Shark Encounters at the Ford Entertainment Stage. Appearing for the first time at the Expo are live sharks enclosed in a 5,000-gallon tank. There will be gasps as intrepid diver Philip Peters enters the water and swims with the sharks. Peters will also provide educational commentary prior to his swim, explaining the value and beauty of these incredible predators. Selected attendees may be chosen to assist in the show, and after Peters’ swim, the audience will be invited to view the sharks close up and participate in a question-and-answer session.

On land, Baywing Falconry will showcase the beauty of live raptors, including hawks, owls and falcons. Cheri Heimbach, a master falconer and licensed conservation educator, will introduce the audience to these striking birds while telling about their habits and the history of falconry.

Many have seen photographs of bird dogs striking their classic “alert” pose, indicating a game bird is present, but few know the time and talent it takes to develop a top bird dog. Join Mark Wolfskill and Karen Shannon of Pheasant Valley Farm and Mark Wagner of Dusty W German Shorthaired Pointers to learn about the training and care of these amazing dogs. Their live demonstrations will be fascinating for all ages.

Anglers will want to try their hand at landing a monster fish at the fishing simulator or experience fly fishing at the casting pool while experts offer advice. Be sure to watch the pros demonstrate their techniques for snagging the biggest bass at the Hawg Trough.

Hunters can step up and try their skill at the Stihl archery range and everyone will be amazed by the live Red Deer on display courtesy of Rolling Farm.

The Expo is also the perfect place for kids to try their hand at fly casting, and even compete to win prizes–no previous fly fishing experience necessary. Mike Corblies, national fly fishing personality and director of American Fly Fishing Schools will emcee a Kids Fly Casting Competition sponsored by Wild Water Fly Fishing Products and Fly Fishing in Salt Waters magazine. The event will be held at the A.F.F.S. “Simulcast” Pond and is geared to testing accuracy; the contest is open to kids from ages 10 to 17 and all equipment will be provided. The contest lets young anglers demonstrate and improve their fly fishing skills, have some fun, and maybe win great prizes! On Thursday, Friday and Saturday kids can register and practice with Captain Mike; the contest will be held on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Hilarity is sure to ensue when contestants sign up to “Bob for Trout” thanks to 92.5 WXTU. Don’t miss the crazy fun, and if you enter, some cool prizes could be yours!

Sunday is Family Day with more special activities, plus children under age 11 get in free when accompanied by a paying adult. The first 150 kids (11 and under) through the door will receive a FREE Plano tackle box.

Make sure the kids visit all the great Kid Fun activities on the show floor during Sunday’s Scavenger Hunt and then have their checklists stamped. Once the checklist is complete, they can head to the Grand Prize Giveaway booth in the lobby and get a free prize.
