LATE FALL WALLEYE TACTICS

Across many parts of the upper Midwest, we are staring at the end of the open water fishing season.

We catch a lot of walleye trolling crankbaits and working glide baits like Jigging Raps, Tikka Minos, Shiver Minnows and Puppet Minnows in the fall and of course swim baits and soft plastics are always an option, but we also see situations in the late fall when live bait is king.

Have seen late fall patterns get tougher where we were doing well with hard baits and then as water temps dropped below fifty degrees, some of these bites would just get tough. Don’t forget the ever reliable jig and minnow program as we get really late into the fall and don’t over estimate how well a jig and minnow can work by just dragging or hanging next to the bottom. These slow, do nothing approaches can save your tail late in the fall.
