I love every season and love the change of seasons but fall is perhaps my favorite time of the year. Fishing is good in the fall and everybody seems to know that but despite how good the fishing is… with school and hunting seasons, there are way fewer people fishing.
If there is one theme that keeps repeating each fall, that theme would be to look for the largest and most obvious pieces of main lake structure. These big, obvious locations can often be community spots but community spots can be some of the best spots in the fall when there are way fewer people fishing.
TROLL THE WEED EDGES
We have been spending some time on some smaller lakes recently and these small, shallow dish bowl lakes often become really productive in the fall. Trolling the outside edge of green weeds has been the ticket with either crankbaits or bottom bouncers and spinners. We often find that when things change a lot in the fall, green weeds offer some stability and hold fish. Some anglers also believe that weeds will hold heat as the temperatures drop overnight. Lush, green stands of weeds that are standing tall will usually have fish right now.
