A National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) Future Angler Event was hosted by NPAA member Brent Long #109 in Huron, Ohio in conjunction with the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit on Sept. 27th. In all 33 future anglers and their parents attended the event that took place immediately following the first day weigh in at the MWC event on Friday.

During the event the young anglers learned about boating safety and the use of a proper fitting life jacket when fishing from a boat.  They also learned casting techniques, and how to tie both the Clinch and Palomar knots to attach lures to their fishing lines. The event included an introduction to different lures and set ups that could be used to fish Lake Erie walleyes and perch.   Baits to consider using were discussed like perch minnows on a jig or hook and night crawlers on a spinner harness. The seminar ended with a look at artificial baits leading into a discussion about Aquatic Invasive Species(AIS) and how to help stop the spread of AIS.

Thanks go to the NPAA with assistance from the Future Angler Foundation for supplying rod and reel combo’s and the NPAA “Future Pro” T-Shirts that were given to the attendees.  You can find out more about the Future Angler Foundation at www.futureangler.org .
