Saturday, June 2nd, the annual Kid’s Fishing Day was held by the Yahara Fishing Club of Madison, Wisconsin. The event was at the Warner Park lagoons on the north side of Lake Mendota. The program lasted from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm with fishing instruction, fishing, NPAA member, Greg Karch’s fishing program, give-a-ways, and a hot dog lunch. Many members of the Yahara Fishing Club were at the park rigging rods and reels at 5:30 am that morning
.
The crowd started to form at 7:30 am for the 400 rods and reels that were given to the first 400 children. We even ran out of rods and reels before lunch. There also was a raffle for some of the gear and equipment given by generous companies and individuals. This was a special day and team effort by the club to have a “special” day for these young aged 4-14 years old.

There are so many to thank for this wonderful event and they include; Walmart, D & S Tackle, Fin-tech for jigs, Madison Fishing Expo, NPAA (National Professional Anglers Association), Pure Fishing, Gander Mountain, Dick Smith’s Live Bait and Tackle,  the Wisconsin Smallmouth Alliance, Thrivent Financial Lutherans, and St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
. NPAA members who helped include; Jim Kloth #633, Duffy Kopf #635, Greg Karch #138, and Gary Engberg #184. Jim Kloth was the team leader.

This was another great children’s event made possible by so many people and companies. Also, the bite was pretty good and most children caught a carp, bluegill, or bass. The smiles and thank you’s made it all worthwhile and I’m sure that there will be more kid’s interested and participating in fishing because of events and people like this. Thanks to all involved.
