Saturday, May 15th marks another Minnesota fishing opener and nowhere is this occasion more celebrated than on Mille Lacs Lake in the central portion of the state.

At midnight, the big lake known as the “walleye factory” will come to life with lighted floats cast to shallow reefs, weed lines and this year, with the warmer water temps, even some deeper rock piles.

12:01 Saturday morning will also mark a first in slip float technology as the all new Thill Splash Brite will light up as it hits the water all around the slip float Mecca known as Mille Lacs.

To celebrate this innovative new lighted slip float and the Minnesota walleye opener, Lindy’s Jon Thelen will make a stop at various landings around the lake with his Lindy wrapped walleye rig to hand out complimentary Splash Brite slip floats to 200 lucky opening night anglers.

Splash Brite

The Splash Brite is a completely sealed center slip float with a brass grommet inserted in the top to let line slide through smoothly and eliminate the potential for a groove being cut in the stem. The Splash Brite turns on upon making contact with the water and shuts off automatically when taken out. With a guaranteed 30 hours minimum battery life, the Splash Brite is the next generation of lighted slip floats.
