Gary was the idea person behind FM Walleyes Unlimited.

“The idea came to me when I was conducting an evening
eight week fishing course for the Fargo school system.”
realized due to the resounding attendance at my fishing
classes that a fishing club might be a welcome addition to
the community.” So after contacting the Oak Manor Motel
and reserving a and meeting room, and Gerry Raftery at
The Forum to have a notice put into his very popular fishing
column about the organizational meeting, FM Walleye was
off and running.. It was from that meeting a list of the
names was gathered to get the club off the ground. “I must
admit my skills at forming a club was a bit rough but due
to the interest in fishing the club still took off

My love of fishing expanded to doing fishing seminars
at area and regional boat shows mainly about crappies
but frequently asked to speak about other species as well.
Gary expanded into the radio market with a weekly fishing
show, carried on area and regional markets. “The folks at
Anheuser Busch contacted me to a series of fishing tips
which was later aired all across the Midwest.

As my contacts developed, one of which was nationally known fisherman Al Lindner, “who
encouraged me to write articles for a number of fishing magazines which included, Fishing
Facts, North American Fisherman, In-fisherman, Midwest outdoors and Fur Fish and Game.”

Gary’s writing expanded into a syndicated weekly fishing column for a number of weekly
and daily news papers in the area. “It wasn’t my writing skills that landed these assignments

but instead the demand of the anglers for fishing information’ Gary co-authored CRAPPIE
WISDOM published and distributed by the In-Fisherman network.
Gary continued on TV with several segments on the Nationally Televised In-Fisherman
TV program.

Gary competed in the first ever walleye tournament held on the waters of Lake Sharpe by
Pierrie South Dakota.

Gary still has a continued love of fishing and learning, since moving from the Fargo area
approximately eight years ago to the Park Rapids lakes area. ‘I must confess fall is my
favorite time of the water”

Gary will share a nostalgic look the fishing scene, FM Walleyes then and how it is now.
In addition Gary will share information about fall fishing the Park Rapids area and a bait
container system to keep those valuable minnows alive and well during those fall outings.
Come and join us Thursday Sept. 15th, at the Kelly Inn on Main Ave, Fargo, ND.
The doors open at 6:30pm and the Seminar starts at 7:00pm.

This meeting is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there, bring a friend!!!
