The second stop of the 2020 NWT kicked off this morning in Sault Ste Marie, MI. Temps are going to continue to be on the hot side, with winds laying down making for optimal running conditions but maybe not the best for spurring walleye activity. Although the bites have been few (during practice), the fish are averaging nice size with good weight. Many anglers are running 50 plus miles to find active fish. The size and diversity of this system, even with the Canadian side off-limits, is mind blowing. The amount of forage is also off the charts, making for a walleye bite that hasn’t been easy. Everything from expansive weed beds to rocks to channel walls to timber are holding fish, with harnesses and shiver minnows seeming to be a few of the favorite techniques. Stay tuned for interviews and photos from the weigh-in later this afternoon.
