July 24, 2014 Fargo, ND, Moorhead, MN- The 7th annual Devils Lake Regional – Angler Young Angler fishing tournament, hosted by FM Walleyes Unlimited, Inc and the Lake Regional Anglers Association, took place Saturday, July 12th at Lakewood Landing in Creel Bay of Devils Lake, ND.  A rules meeting and family picnic with entertainment from Games Galore was held on Friday, July 11th at Roosevelt Park.

A full slate of 40 – three person teams comprised of 2 youth anglers, age 17 or younger and one adult angler, age 18 or older. Teams came from all over Minnesota, North Dakota and Manitoba to take part in the competition with a dozen on the waiting list. 
Tony, Brianna & Brook Bundy of Sandborn, ND brought in 5 walleyes weighing 16.47lbs to win the Devils Lake Regional Championship. Team Bundy earned a trip to Kenora, ON where they will represent the state of North Dakota at the 2014 AYA International Championship in August. They also won a brand-new Lund A-12 boat, a five-horsepower Mercury outboard engine and a Shoreland’r trailer.

The team of Kraig, Blake & Alex Gellner, West Fargo, ND brought in 5 walleyes weighing in at 15.63lbs for a strong second place finish and in third place was the team of Preston Weisenburger, Kaleb Haley and Benjamin MaKay all of New Rockford, ND who weighed in 5 walleyes for 14.08lbs.  Fishing for the day was fantastic as 36 teams managed to bring in their limit to the scales, the other 4 teams were only short by one fish. 

Special awards went to Destidy Schwanke of Leeds, ND for landing the largest walleye caught by a girl at 5.57lbs. Largest walleye caught by a boy went to Tommy Dion of Jamestown, ND at 5.13lbs. The Travelers Award went to the VanOverbeke’s of Marshall, MN. Scott, Brandon, Cameron VanOverbeke traveled 6hrs and 9min to attend the AYA on Devils Lake. Tayven Wiberg of Devils Lake, ND received the award for being the Youngest Angler at 5 years old. Kyan Kalberer & Jacob Denning each received a Captains Pin from past tournament director Barry Chouinard. These two young gentlemen graduated from being young anglers to being boat captains for two other young anglers for the event.

Dan Hammer, host of Midco Sports Network’s – “Dakota Destinations” was also in attendance with a film crew. The show will air sometime around April, 2015.
