The AIM (Anglers Inside Marketing) Weekend Walleye Series Championship for MN will be held on Lake of the Woods August 26th and 27th.  Teams will be after the largest walleyes in the system as the format of AIM is C-R-R, catch, record, release.  This enables anglers to work around the slot limit of 19.5″ – 28″ in place on LOW.
When an angler catches a 26″ walleye for example, one partner will hold the walleye against an official tournament ruler given out that morning upon boat inspection and the other anglers will take a digital picture.  A second picture is then taken of the fish similar to a hero shot so the sides of the fish and any markings can be identified, preventing the same fish from being recorded a second time.
The pictures are stored on the SD card inside the camera that was issued after boat inspection that morning as well.  Anglers record the length of the fish and turn in the largest fish via measurements and the SD card.
Many are in favor of this catch, record, release format as walleyes are released with less harm and are not boated around in a livewell all day in which mortality rates increase.  It also takes away the game of trying to catch fish just below the slot limit, but rather, target the largest fish in the system.
The last AIM Tournament was held up at Lake of the Woods in 2012 and was the AIM Pro Walleye circuit.  That tournament was held out of the Wheeler’s Point boat ramp as is this tournament.  In that tournament, anglers put up huge weights of walleyes.  Rick Olson had the big fish of the tournament, a 32.5″ monster that tipped the scales at 14 lbs.
The rules meeting for the AIM Tournament will be at Wigwam Resort the evening before the tournament.  The final weigh in will take place as boats make their way to the scales at 3:15pm Saturday.  Awards will be given at 5pm.
We wish the AIM anglers competing on The Walleye Capital of the World great success.
