Minnetonka, MN – The 2015 Youth Fishing Seasons wrapped up this month on Lake Minnetonka and Lake Minnewaska in Minnesota. Over 60, kids between the ages of 5-12 years old set out each Tuesday evening in July and August to catch fish for points!  They were led by fishing coaches, who most of the time, were mom or dad, and at the end of each evening met up to share fish stories, see who caught the big one, and had fishing education sessions.  There were a ton of fish caught by all of the kids who participated, including some trophy class bass, sunfish, and even a big muskie!

“We are excited to be implementing a model that replicates other youth sports and  gives kids the opportunity to fish as part of a team,” says NPAA member Kolt Ringer who founded the American Angler League Organization, a 501(c)3 that’s goal is to help communities across the country build and support youth fishing associations.

NPAA member Nancy Koep, despite recovering from back surgery, donated her time and expertise to help organize the teams fishing on Lake Minnewaska.
The National Professional Anglers Association also supported the leagues in Minnesota by working with their supporting partners to provide each angler a rod, reel, water bottle, and t-shirt for participating in the season and completing the angler education components on Lake Minnetonka each evening.
