Professional angler Patricia Strutz is on a mission to get more women on the water. As a fishing school instructor she encourages, educates, and provides opportunities for women to take up the sports of boating and fishing. Her WOW! Women on the Water Fishing Trips offer all-women’s, couples, and unisex group fishing excursions to Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Canada. Coupled with other top pros, Strutz teaches both boating and fishing skills, “We’ve found that the greatest deterrent for women learning to fish is actually their lack of boat operation skills. So, in addition to fishing techniques, we teach things such as launching and loading a boat, running a trolling motor, and reading a depthfinder. I always like to say that we offer the chance to ‘learn to back up your boat & trailer without your husband yelling at you!”Sponsored by companies such as Shimano, WOW! venues walk new anglers through the myriad of equipment choices on the market. Advances in gear have made outdoor tackle much more female-friendly, and WOW! gladly showcases these products.Different levels of fishing experiences are offered; from a Womens Beginner Bass Trip on small Northwoods lakes to an advanced Couples Chasing Muskies Trip held on trophy potential waters. “In addition to the all-womens trips, we do offer couples and mixed group trips. It is our aim to teach gals these wonderful outdoor sports and thus encourage more couples and families to take them up together.”The group atmosphere fosters a sense of confidence and genuine camaraderie. Many times at the end of the trip participants are exchanging phone numbers and planning future fishing trips. Sprinkled into each outing are campfires, outdoor cooking, and wildlife identification & appreciation games truly a complete Northwoods experience. For more information and 2007 itinerary, visit Strutz’s website, www.ablondandherboat.com or call (715) 891.1173
