(Otter Tail County, Minn.) January 2, 2018 – The Women Ice Angler Project has added the eighth angler to round out the team for 2018-Krissie Mason. Mason, of Savage, Minnesota, is an adventurous outdoor spirit, food enthusiast, and farm-girl who supports a field-to-fork wild-food chain, and especially enjoys expanding pantries and stretching game and fish palates with delicious recipes. “There’s nothing like some fresh air, a plate of good food and a cup of smoky campfire coffee to turn a stranger into a friend,” said Mason who is excited to join this great team of women ice anglers. “Let’s cook good food together and take some fun photos along the way.” Mason is an award-winning photographer and writes for Outdoor Life Magazine, OutdoorLife.comOutdoorHub.comRuffed Grouse Society Magazine, Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine, Pheasant Forever/Quail Forever, and several additional websites.

Returning sponsors have signed for 2018 including Clam Outdoors, Vexilar and Jiffy along with media partners Outdoors First and Larry Smith Outdoors. New sponsors for 2018 include Orion Coolers, Ray Marine Electronics, Beaver Dam Tip Ups, Camp Chef, the Nest of Perham, and host sites for the 2018 #womenonice media event: Otter Tail Lakes Country Association (OTLCA) and East Silent Lake Resort. New media sponsor includes GrassFed Media.

A special event has been organized alongside #womenonice to encourage local and regional lady-anglers to spend a day on the ice (guided or D-I-Y). A special meet-and-greet event is planned for The Nest in Perham on Friday evening, Feb. 9 to meet the eight #womenonice anglers. On-the-ice fishing day is Saturday, Feb. 10. Contact 1-320-428-5174 to ask questions or reserve your spot. Space is limited. Rates include $100 for guided fishing day and $50 for D-I-Y unguided fishing (but with the group).

In addition to Mason and Carey, the following ladies will fish in #womenonice this year: pro-staff anglers Shelly Holland, Bonnie Timm, Shantel Wittstruck and Rikki Pardun; outdoor photographer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson and outdoor writer Kristine (K.J.) Houtman.

The goal of the Women Ice Angler Project is to encourage women to try ice fishing as well as mentor those who already enjoy the adventure sport and want to improve their skills. An additional plus has been moving the industry forward to show women ice anglers in corporate marketing efforts and social media. “We don’t underestimate the skill level of women ice anglers,” Barb Carey said. “Sure, we’re happy to introduce some new participants, but there are many women who want to grow in their skills and our powerful group of gals can help them do just that. In addition, we can help make sure the industry isn’t leaving them out when carrying their marketing messages forward. Women are in this sport, too.”

Adding photographer Krissie Mason to the team also increases the availability of award-winning outdoor photography from the event. Hannah Stonehouse Hudson of Stonehouse Photography welcomes the additional camera work as beautiful photography is a big part of the sponsors’ interest in WIAP. “The colder it is, the happier I am,” Hudson said about her photography. “I’m thrilled to have Krissie join us and spotlight share in the incredible winter backdrop.” WIAP photos can be found in retail stores, on product packaging, in corporate catalogs as well as throughout tourism and ice-fishing social media.
