East Texas Fishing Report: Lake Athens crappie slow

ATHENS — Water level is five inches high and clear. Water temp is 50 degrees.

Jim Brack says bass fishing has been hit or miss in 25-30 feet using spoons. Also some fish hitting Carolina rigs on humps in 20-25. Grass beds in 1-12 feet also giving up some good quality bass on cranks. Crappie are slow on small jigs tipped with shiners.

CEDAR CREEK — Water level is at full pool and stained. Water temp in the upper 40s.

Jason Barber says blue cat are fair on cut shad soaked on bottom around shallow stumps up north and drifted over deep water down south. Bass are fair on cranks, spinnerbaits and jig worked slowly around deeper docks with brush as well as shore rock. White bass and hybrids are fair on shad plastics dead sticked over open water down south.
