It seems like a simple recipe, really.<\/p>\n

Joe Bucher \u2014 longtime host of \u201cFishing with Joe Bucher\u201d and a 2002 Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame inductee \u2014 believes there are just three ingredients to consistently catching big muskies. They are knowledge, skill and effort.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s isn\u2019t luck,\u201d said the Wisconsin founder of Musky Hunter magazine. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to have all three.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rub, of course, is they usually come only with time. Lots of it.<\/p>\n

Bucher, though, recently shared some secrets for catching more muskies more often. All center around one thing: getting big fish to bite.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one thing to find fish, he said. It\u2019s another to turn their natural \u201cwolf-like\u201d curiosity into a commitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest difference between a real successful angler in the musky game a lot of times and everybody else is the ability to get the fish to strike,\u201d Bucher said.<\/p>\n

Here are 10 ways to do it.<\/p>\n

1. Throw big blades<\/strong><\/p>\n

Muskies are apex predators, at the top of the food chain. To the biggest \u2014 fish maybe 20 years old \u2014 everything is a potential lunch.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re infamous for following lures, though, sometimes right up to the boat, then disappearing.<\/p>\n

If Bucher gets a \u201cfollow\u201d like that on a topwater lure, he immediately casts back over that fish. But this time he tosses a big inline spinner, one perhaps with #10 blades. He reels it back as fast as he can, creating a commotion on the surface.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just create this incredible tension and excitement that makes the fish bite,\u201d Bucher said. \u201cIt does work more often than not.\u201d<\/p>\n
